A protected species in Sri Lanka this owl is a nocturnal bird preying especially on fishes found in abundance in the islands water ways. Hatching of an offspring in captivity is a rare occasion as these fauna are threatened with extinction and only spotted by lucky visitors at the island nations several wildlife sanctuaries.
