Every Christmas Eve Galdames, a small town in the heart of the Encartaciones, a mountainous area on the western border of Biscay, brings together people from the village and neighboring areas for the traditional Bread Fair (Ogi eguna).

As in most fairs in the Basque Country, the air fills with the smells and flavors of country products. But it is not only that: There is an important bread-making contest in which contestants make bread according to traditional methods in a firewood oven.

People attending the fair can make their own bread, knead it, put it into the oven and take it home to eat it that night.

There are also livestock farmers, craftsmen from the region, animal shows, etc.. but the on the morning of December 24th in Galdames, bread is the main feature.
