US Basque photographer seeks roots in art

José Antonio Alcayaga III, a US photographer of Basque heritage, will be displaying some of his works at "Art to the Avenue", a Spring arts festival held every year in Connecticut.

Every year, restaurants and retailers in Greenwich, Connecticut select artists to exhibit their work as part of an annual arts programme; this time, Talbots - a clothing store for teenage girls, women, and kids - will be exhibiting 9 photos taken by José Antonio Alcayaga III shot during a visit to the Basque Country. All the works on display will be on sale.

This May also marks the 13th Anniversary of the Greenwich Arts Council''s major annual program "Art to the Avenue" which will be on show between May 6 and 31. Year on year this event has grown in number of participating artists, collaborating businesses and visitors who have enjoyed celebrating art in downtown Greenwich.

Basque language meetup

José Antonio Alcayaga III is a member of the Basque Club of New York and the Society of Basque Studies in America. In 2008, he studied Basque culture and Euskara, the Basque language, through the University of the Basque Country in Donostia-San Sebastián.

José is hoping to unite all those who share his surname, which is Basque in origin. Prior to his trip over, he created a group on Facebook in order to open up a forum for discussing ancestry. Currently the group, "Alcayagas del Mundo/Alcayagas of the World", has approximately 870 members. Most recently, José organized the first ever Basque language &' || 'amp; Culture Meetup in New York City.
