Two Idiazabal dairies awarded at Best Cheese Rome Prize

Dairies Amondarain S.C. and J. Aramburu Elkarte Sat, with Denomination of Origin for Idiazabal cheese, have been awarded at a contest aimed to appreciate the best cheeses of Europe.

Dairies Amondarain S.C. and J. Aramburu Elkarte Sat, with Denomination of Origin for Idiazabal cheese, have been awarded the second and third prize respectively in the 4th International "Best Cheese" 2009 Rome Prize, held last Saturday in the capital of Italy.

The Rome Chamber of Commerce, for the development and promotion of the agricultural and food industry, held this competition which aims to appreciate the best cheeses of the different areas of the Rome territory, as well as regional, national and international ones. More than 70 dairies of all over the world participated in the contest.

Carmen Pérez de Albeniz and Miguel Jáuregui picked up the prize for Amondarain S.C, while Myriam and Olatz Aramburu represented J. Aramburu Elkarte Sat.

Both dairies belong to the Association Shepherd Cheese "Artzai Gazte" and produce natural food inspired by the most ancient pastoral and maturation practices.
