South Korean civil groups gathered in front of former president Kim Dae-jung''s house in Seoul on Sunday, to denounce his "Sunshine Policy" towards North Korea and protest against Pyongyang.

About 200 protesters took part in the demonstration, holding posters showing North Korean leader Kim Jong Il meeting with Kim Dae-jung and shouting out slogans, denouncing North Korea''s recent nuclear test.

Protesters also welcomed a new United Nations Security Council Resolution against North Korea.

In a sign of the growing international frustration with the regime in Pyongyang, the Security Council on Friday unanimously voted to expand sanctions aimed at depriving North Korea of financing used to build its nuclear programme.

During the demonstration on Sunday, protesters set fire to North Korean flags and pictures of Kim Jong Il.

Protest leader Park Chan-sung urged the South Korean government to support the Security Council sanctions and called for the international community to keep up pressure on Pyongyang.

Police tried to block the protesters from entering Kim Dae-jung''s house, leading to minor scuffles.

Former President Kim won the 2000 Nobel Peace Prize as architect of a "Sunshine Policy" that offered aid as a way to promote reconciliation with the communist North Korea.
