The British actor Ian McKellan (born in Burnley, 1939) is to be one of this year''s award winners at the 57th International Film Festival in Donostia-San Sebastian. He will be presented with the Donostia Award on 23rd September.

During his long career, McKellan has played a number of enormously varied parts including, among others, well-loved characters such as Gandalf in The Lord of the Rings trilogy and baddies like Megneto in X-Men. With two Oscar nominations, first in 1998 for Gods and Monsters and later in 2001 for his interpretation of Tolkien''s favourite wizard, McKellan was awarded the Basque film festival''s Concha de Plata for the formerly mentioned motion picture, Gods and Monsters.
