Basque chef Berasategui opens restaurant in Shanghai

Located in the largest city in China, 'Martin' will be showing both beautiful colors and great tastes of foods to satisfy Chinese palates. 'Pintxos' will be restricted to the bar menu.

Three-star Michelin chef Martin Berasategui is opening his namesake restaurant in Shanghai, China, on Monday 28th. Basque chef has chosen the Asian city to open his first premises abroad.

Located in an emblematic 4-floor building which used to host the headquarters of the EMI record label in the Chinese city, and surrounded by a lake, it will be inaugurated on Monday afternoon by the Basque cook, despite those in charge of the business will be his disciples and head chefs Yago Márquez and Maxime Fanton, together with 60 Chinese contributors.

According to Berasategui, there is an universal language which overcomes all cultural and communication problems. "Even in my best dreams, I never imagined I would open a restaurant in Shanghai," he told Basque Television-ETB reporters. Very proud of being in China, he has reserved Basque typical Pintxos for the bar menu.
