ETA has acknowledged the "high level of impact" that the recent message by Spanish Interior Minister Alfredo Pérez Rubalcaba, had on its social support base when the Minister urged the pro-independence left-wing to choose "votes or bombs".

A document created by the armed group''s "political wing" recognizes the effect Rubalcaba''s message had on its ''abertzale'' supporters but urges them not to pay heed to the "repressive wager" of "votes or bombs" which they describe as a "psychological" attempt to "spread despair".

In the same document, ETA also recognize that their activity "creates more contradictions internally than within the nucleus of our enemy" and also that they are unable to "shape the political landscape". "The line that has been drawn creates a lot of doubts and debates," the document adds.

It is one year exactly since the armed Basque group detonated a car-bomb containing more than 100 kilos of explosives outside the EITB headquarters in Bilbao causing extensive material damage to EITB and surrounding businesses.
