Five people dead and one missing after chemical plant explosion

A chemical plant explosion on Thursday in China''s northwestern Gansu province left five people dead and one missing, CCTV reported.

Dozens of people were injured in the incident.

The chemical plant which belongs to Sinopec, China''s oil and gas producer, is located 30 kilometers (18.6 miles) from the downtown of Lanzhou, capital of Gansu province and only about 500 meters (1640 feet) from a residence community, CCTV said.

The blast happened at around 5:30 pm and windows of many residential buildings were broken by the explosive wave, report said.

The big fire caused by the explosion was already under control, according to local officials.
