Six people die in fire at Spanish retirement home

A fire at a retirement home in the southern Spanish city of Seville has killed six people and injured 12, according to a regional government official.

The fire broke out at about midnight on Monday in an upstairs room.

Thirteen people were rescued uninjured from the three-storey building in central Seville, according to Micaela Navarro, a Social Welfare councillor for the government.

The injured were being treated on Tuesday at the city''s Virgen Macarena and Virgen del Rocio''s hospitals.

The owner of the retirement home said there was "a small explosion" and then a short circuit.

Police are still investigating the cause of the fire.
