Health care

Still no green light for Obama's health bill

Staff

03/20/2010

Tension over the health care reform reaches his peak while we enter the final weekend. It seems like the abortion issue is going to be a crucial matter as 44 Democrats are still indecisive.

Comments

Currently already 178 Republicans and 29 Democrats voted against the bill. 180 Democrats stand behind their president, while 44 haven''t decided yet.

It''s now Obama''s job to convince the majority of this last group to support him on this ''historical'' legislature. 216 votes are needed to form a majority, so it''s going to be a tight race.

The legislation concerning abortion may still be a hindrance for the health-reform. Abortion is a very delicate issue in the United States.

A part of the indecisive Democrats, mostly catholics and representatives of the Midwest, fear that the new bill will loosen up the abortion rules and create a flow of state funds to abortion clinics.

Private institutions

Today de American President will meet up with the Democratic Representatives in the White House. In his latest speech he stressed again the importance and the need for a drastic change in national health care.

The American health care system relies on private institutions, what makes it very expensive for people with chronic diseases to get proper health care.
