The University of Nevada in Reno will host its 9th Annual International Conference entitled 'War, Exile, Justice and Everyday Life, 1936 -1946', on April 15th and 16th 2010.

The conference brings together a select group of scholars from Europe and the United States whose research broadly relates to the experience of war, exile, justice and everyday life in the Basque Country, France, Spain, and Germany from 1936 to 1946.

This crucial time period reshaped the entire continent of Europe. Citizens of the Basque Country massively fled the misery and horrors of the Civil War, emigrating to Europe, USSR and the USA.

Professor of Modern History Santiago De Pablo and Associate Professor Sandra Ott organise and coordinate the project. Five sessions are planned over two days in which presentations, readings, debates and discussions are held, all open to the public.

According to De Pablo, this will be an opportunity to meet new people and be exposed to new work; a mutual interest that will benefit both the University and the participants.

Papers presented by the scholars will be compiled into a book, which is to be sent to over 500 libraries worldwide.
