Minister's plans to burn Qurans condemned as 'shameful'

The Reverend Terry Jones of Gainesville, Florida drew criticism from the likes of Bill Clinton and Angelina Jolie and various death threats after announcing 'International Burn-a-Quran Day'.

The leader of a small Florida church that espouses anti-Islamphilosophy says he is determined to go through with his plan to burncopies of the Quran on September 11th, despite pressure from the WhiteHouse, religious leaders and others to call it off.

The Reverend Terry Jones confirmed his decision Wednesday on the CBS Early Show.

Jones says he has received more than 100 death threats and has started wearing a .40-caliber pistol strappedto his hip since announcing his plan to burn the book Muslims considerthe word of God and insist be treated with the utmost respect. The58-year-old minister proclaimed in July that he would stage"International Burn-a-Quran Day."

Jones intends to incinerate the holy text in a bonfire Saturday to mark the ninth anniversary of the September 11th, 2001, terror attacks in New York and Washington.
