Basque Premier, Patxi Lopez, said that it is necessary to make a reflection on taxation. However, he explained he does not think they will reach any agreement with Bildu "because it is possible that Bildu does not care about the necessary tax harmonization, obligatory consensus of the three councils and the Government to defend a reasonable tax policy."

During an interview on the radio programme "Más que palabras" in Radio Euskadi, Patxi Lopez stated that "my goal is not to reach an agreement with Bildu, but that this country makes a reflection."

"When you appoint a fiscal policy some people only think that the only thing we want is to raise taxes. Then, possibly some taxes must rise," he stated.

Besides, he wanted to highlight three aspects that from his point of view are necessary. First, economic growth and subsequently, income generation.

Second, he called to fight against tax fraud, "according to some studies is estimated at 20%, which means annually 3,500 million euros coming into the public coffers."

"The third one is sufficient tax. For this, we have to see which things we can deal with. I spoke the other day to recover taxes that were eliminated in the past and they may not have to be eliminated," he stated.
