An alert flood warning has been lifted in the Basque Country as levels in most of the rivers fell after the high tide on Wednesday evening and no severe flooding was expected on Thursday.

Heavy rain brought flooding to Bilbao on Wednesday and caused serious problems in the area. The A-8 motorway that links Santander, Bilbao and Donostia-San Sebastian was also cut off at several points on Wednesday afternoon.

Basque Government’s crisis committee issued a warning alert on Wednesday morning to coordinate response as severe flooding was expected before the high tide.
