When Ji Siguang went on the fun in 1998 after assaulting a policeman during a street robbery and stealing his gun, he took extreme measures to avoid arrest - he became an actor on a primetime Chinese television show.

The UK's 'Guardian' newspaper reported on Thursday that 39-year-old Siguang had finally been captured in China’s Zhejiang province. He was on the set of Chinese period drama 'Shaolin Tigers', in which he plays a Buddhist monk, when police seized him.

The idea of Siguang - whose stage name is Zhang Guofeng - to become an actor wasn’t quite as insane as it sounds. He appeared in more than 30 shows on Chinese television prior to his arrest, which ultimately came about thanks to an anonymous tipoff.

Despite starring in Chinese hit spy drama ‘Lurk’, officers failed to spot Siguang on TV. It would seem Chinese police need to watch more television.
