The Basque orchestra conductor Inma Shara (Amurrio, Álava, 1972) is the winner of this year''s prestigious 2009 Excellence Awards.

After having directed the major Spanish symphony orchestras as well as the Czech National Symphony, the Russian National Symphony, and the London Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, among others, Shara, a pupil of Alexander Rahbari and Sir Colin Davis, has been awarded the European Excellence Prize, something that, definitely, places Inmaculada Sarachaga among the best conductors of her generation.

The European commission president José Manuel Durao Barroso was also awarded during a ceremony that was held in Madrid.
