After its recent success at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York, the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao will premiere in Europe a ScentOpera entitled Green Aria. To mark this new art form, the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao has organized from October 1 to 15 a comprehensive program of activities including lectures, film screenings, and panel discussions where scents are the main protagonists.

The ScentOpera introduces a new art form created by Stewart Matthew based principally on smell and sound, in which he collaborated with renowned fragrance designer Christope Laudamiel and composers Nico Muhly and Valgeir Sigurdsson.

In this experimental work twenty-three original scents -such as Earth, Shiny Steel or Green Metal- take on new roles of unique characters paired with compositions of music and sound design to weave a sensory spell in a darkened theater over a period of half an hour.

New technology has been developed for the ScentOpera: theater seats will be equipped with ‘scent microphones’ calibrated to deliver precisely-timed scents to the viewer.

Tickets and price
The price of the ScentOpera will be €10 for the general public and €8.5 for Museum Members. Tickets can be purchased at the admission window and at the Museum website.
