Michael Nyman Band will perform the best of Muchael Nyman programme on Wednesday, April 14th at Arriaga Theatre in Bilbao (Basque Country).

Considered a ''Renaissance Man'', his restless creativity and multi-faceted art has made him one of the most fascinating and influential cultural icons of our times.

Michael Nyman, born on 23rd March 1944, is one of Britain''s most innovative and celebrated composers, whose work encompasses operas and string quartets, film soundtracks and orchestral concertos. Far more than merely a composer, he''s also a performer, conductor, pianist, author, musicologist, photographer and film-maker.

Considered a ''Renaissance Man'', his restless creativity and multi-faceted art has made him one of the most fascinating and influential cultural icons of our times.

Best known for his works written during his long collaboration with the British film-maker, Peter Greenaway, his popularity soared after composing the soundtrack for Jane Campion''s award-winning film, The Piano (1993), but he has composed the music for many other films, the majority of which for independent European productions.

His operas include The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat, Letters, Riddles and Writs, Noises, Sounds &' || 'amp; Sweet Airs, Facing Goya, Man and Boy: Dada, Love Counts, and Sparkie: Cage and Beyond, and he has written six concerti, four string quartets, and many other chamber works, many for his Michael Nyman Band, with and without whom he tours as a performing pianist.
