The Heineken San Sebastian Jazz Festival continued with its second day of music on Thursday, this time at the hands of double-bassist Ron Carter. The North American was just one of the great musicians lined up to play the Gipuzkoa capital on a day which also saw&' || 'nbsp; the presentation of the Jazzaldia 2010 Prize of Donostia.

Heineken Jazzaldia in Donostia-San Sebastian is the longest running jazz festival in the Basque Country. Rock singer Patti Smith opened the festival on Wednesday on the Green stage at Zurriola beach.

Carter was joined on the Trinidad square stage by Russell Malone and Mulgrew Miller, the other two components of the Ron Carter Golden Striker Trio. Their gig followed a set from Trumpeter Christian Scott.

Prior to the start of Thursday''s concert, Carter was presented with the Donostiako Jazzaldia 2010 Award, a prize which has been awarded every year since 1994 in recognition of a life-time''s career in music.

Previous winners include: Doc Cheatham (1994), Phil Woods (1995), Hank Jones (1996), Steve Lacy (1997), Chick Corea (1998), Max Roach and Clark Terry (1999), Kenny Barron (2000), Ray Brown (2001), Elvin Jones (2002), Bebo Valdés (2003), Shirley Horn and Fernando Trueba (2004), Keith Jarrett and Charles Mingus (In Memoriam) (2005), Herbie Hancock (2006), Wayne Shorter (2007), Ahmad Jamal (2008) and Roy Haynes (2009).

British singer-songwriter Elvis Costello will close this year''s edition, on Sunday July 25th. The concert will start at 9pm and Kris Kristofferson will also be playing. The tickets for the final concert cost 45 euros.
