Almost 30 years after it first exploded on the screen, the"Scarface" cast reunites and thanks Hip Hop for its sudden success.

Al Pacino and his 'little friends' Steven Bauer, F. Murray Abraham, Robert Loggia and producer Mark Bregman gathered Tuesday ( 23 August 2011) night in Los Angeles to celebrate the release of Scarface on Blu-Ray and to reminisce about this pop culture phenomenon.

"It endures, I know, it's hard to understand it. There is something, it sort of perpetuated," said Al Pacino. "I know there's a video of the rappers and a hip-hop group talks about it in such a way that becomes very clear why its endured and what it's about."

One of the influenced rap groups were the Geto Boys in 1986. Eventually one of the members named Brad Jordon broke away from the group and gave himself the stage name Scarface inspired by the 1983 classic.

Steven Bauer said the hip hop generation discovered the movie. "They put it and made it mainstream, so I have to thank them."

'Scarface' characters Tony Montana and his best friend Manny Rivera, 'Manolo,' finished the movie in the early 80s with great pride. Much to their disappointment, the critics were not impressed.

"Also Hollywood wasn't ready," explained Bauer. "I remember sitting in the screening and Martin Scorsese was sitting in front of me and he turned around to me in the middle of the film and said, 'You know they are going to hate this film in Hollywood.' I said, 'Why?' He said, 'Because it's about them and I went, 'Oh no.' He was right because I would walk around, I would go on interviews here after the movie and I would think, 'I was in a movie with Al Pacino.' It kicks ass and then I would go in the office and people would come in and would go, 'Hi, nice to meet you. You are a really good actor, but it's too bad you were in that stupid film. I would be like, 'What?'"

In total, Pacino has received seven different Oscar nominations for films such as, Dick Tracy, The Godfather, and one win for, Scent of a Woman. Despite not being recognized by the Academy for his work in Scarface, it remains one of his most special films.

"It's one of my favorites because of its whole evolution, you know, how it started and then seeing the picture and seeing Marty and also being sort of eviscerated after it opened by the press and it not being very, nobody was fond of it, except it had good audience participation but then to see it go, I mean we were surprised that it was not accepted when it first came out," said Pacino. "We really were, but whatever they call it, it's good."

In 1932, the world experienced Scarface for the first time in Italian. The main character's name was Antonio 'Tony' Camonte. Almost 50 years later, "Scarface," introduced Tony Montana and was released in 1983. Since then there have not been any more remakes.

Producer Martin Bregman believes that if Hollywood were to ever consider remaking the movie that redefined the gangster genre, the lead would have to take a completely different approach.

"Well Tony Montana would have to take a different size to him, he would have to become a different character because nobody could repeat what he did," said Bergman. "It was an original performance. Really an original performance, only a great actor."

Scarface, will be available on Blu-Ray September 6th, 2011. The new release will include bonus features, deleted scenes and commentary on the history of the movie.
