The Basque Country ready for Jazz legends this July

Jazz legends such as Wayne Shorter, Sonny Rollins, Gilberto Gil, Pat Metheny or Antony will perform in some of the summer jazz festivals of the Basque Country.

Directors of the three summer Jazz festivals in the Basque Country Iñaki Saitua (Getxo), Iñaki Añua (Vitoria) and Miguel Martín (San Sebastián) presented on Monday the schedule of the summer festivals.

The program for the 47th Heineken Jazz Festival to be held in San Sebastian between the 19th and the 23rd of July 2012 includes Jimmy Cobb, Neneh Cherry & The Thing. The renown drummer Jimmy Cobb, one of the most important drummers in jazz history, will receive the Donostiako Jazzaldia award this year.

Other artists that will play in Donostia-San Sebastian are Spectrum Road, Nils Petter Molvaer, Terje Rypdal, Hasier Oleaga-Cantus Caterva, Mari Kvien Brunvoll, Antony, Bobby McFerrin, Jamaican Legends, Yellowjackets, Ray Gelato, Marc Ribot, Ninety Miles and Peter Evans.

Jazz saxophonists Sonny Rollins, Joe Lavano and Joshua Redman, singer Gilberto Gil and Path Metheny and his band are among the principal artists lined up to perform at the 36th Jazz Festival of Vitoria-Gasteiz.

In Getxo, main starts include guitar player Larry Carlton, lead singer China Moses, saxophonist Wayne Shorter, and Eliane Elias.
