The Basque cities of Tolosa and Donostia-San Sebastian will host the 2016 World Puppet Festival after their joint bid was chosen by a vote of the UNIMA Executive Committee at a meeting in Chengdu (China) on 31 May 2012 defeating the Ekaterimburg bid.

The Tolosa-San Sebastian bid got twice as many votes as the bid of the Russian city.

The world puppet festival is held every four years organized by the International Puppetry Association UNIMA.
