Basque climber dies after fall in French Pyrenees

The 42-year-old alpinist from the Basque city of Donostia-San Sebastian died from trauma following a fall from an ice wall in the Crabere peak.

A 42-year-old mountaineer originally from the Basque city of Donostia-San Sebastian died on Sunday evening as a consequence of trauma suffered following a serious fall.

The man, identified as Manuel de la Hoz, was descending an ice wall in the Crabere peak in the French Pyrenees when the incident occurred. He was found dead by response teams.

The victim's climbing companion, identified as Raúl Osa, also fell during the descent and remained unconscious for several years. He called the emergency teams out after he regained consciousness.
