British police say a Basque man has been arrested in London on behalf of Spanish authorities over alleged terrorist offenses.

In a statement, the Metropolitan Police said Garikoitz Ibarlucea Murva, 29, was arrested by officers from the extradition unit in London''s busy Soho district on Sunday.

A police spokesman said Murva''s detention came under an European arrest warrant.

He is to appear in a London court on Monday.
