An statement by the armed Basque group ETA announcing the definitive cessation of its armed activity aroused great deal of interest and was reported by some of the most important media groups abroad.

Le Monde: "ETA announces the end of its armed activity". The French newspaper stresses that the peace conference held in Donostia-San Sebastian on Monday was the final push to prompt ETA to take this decision. Previous to the conference, it mentions the Spanish-French police joint collaboration and the judiciary and police pressure.

BBC: "Basque group Eta says armed campaign is over". The British Broadcasting Corporation explains that the statement was provided by the armed group itself to the BBC and remembers that in September 2010, it announced, again to the BBC, a decision not to carry out further attacks.

The Guardian: "Eta declares halt to armed conflict". For the British newspaper, "half a century of bloodshed in the Basque country has come to a historic close after the separatist group Eta finally renounced the use of arms and sought talks with the Spanish and French governments"

The New York Times: "Basque Separatists Halt Campaign of Violence". John F. Burns reveals from London that ETA's announcement came in the form of a written statement and an accompanying video posted online, which were sent to news organizations.
