Lehendakari Patxi López remains intent on seeing out his mandate as head of the Basque Government. The Basque Premier on Friday ruled out early elections and said that leading the government this term 'was worth it' for having ended terrorism.

In a press conference to talk about the past year, Patxi Lopez referred to the possibility that the next autonomous elections in Euskadi would be brought forward.

Surrounded by more than 200 members of his government, the Basque Premier stressed that the government had "ended ETA's terrorism and violence" in the Basque Country".

Lopez also said that it was time to "heal the wounds caused by terrorism" and added it was "necessary to bring back to democracy those who had had totalitarian attitudes".
