Athletic Club Bilbao have agreed a one-year contract extension with coach Joaquin Caparros until the end of next season, the La Liga club said on Tuesday.

The former Sevilla and Deportivo Coruna boss joined the Basque club in 2007 and led them to the King''s Cup final last year where they lost to Barcelona.

They lie seventh in the standings this season, one point outside the Europa League qualification places.

If Caparros remains in charge until the end of next season he will become just one of a handful of coaches in over 60 years to stay at San Mames for four seasons.
