Caja Laboral win ACB Championship

The Basques defeated Regal Barcelona 79-78 for the final 3-0.

Fernando San Emeterio scored a lay-up and added the winner from the free-throw line with less that a second left to lead Caja Laboral to the win on the third game of the ACB finals.

Tiago Splitter, with 14 points and 13 rebounds, won the MVP Award. Eliyahu added 18 points.

For Barcelona, Navarro scored 18 points, Mickeal had 16 and Rubio added 14.

Caja Laboral tried to make a storming start to the game and added a 6-0 run but Regal Barcelona reacted well and took the lead in the scoreboard 8-10. English fired in a three-pointer and Eliyahu scored for two in the last minute to give the Basques a 22-18 lead.

Caja Laboral bossed the second quarter, helped mainly by Eliyahu, who scored eight points during this period. At half-time, the Basques led 41-36.

Both teams worked hard in defense after the break. Navarro fired in three free throws with one minute left in the third quarter to put the Catalans ahead on the scoreboard, 50-51. Eliyahu added two points more for Caja Laboral to regain the lead but Ricky Rubio scored to put Barca back on top 52-53 at the end of the third period.

The last period was as hard-fought as the previous one. Pau Rivas fired in a three-pointer in the last minute to give Caja Laboral a 5-point advantage. Navarro answered with another three-pointer and Morris added two points to tie the game at 66 points with 30 seconds left. Eliyahu tried to score in the last 5 seconds but Morris blocked the shot to take the ball to the extended time.

With seven seconds left and trailing by two points, Fernando San Emeterio scored two points and added an additional point from the two-point line for the final 79-78.
