Despite winning 18 points with just three minutes to go in the third quarter, Scariolo's men lost out to Lithuania, complicating their future in the tournamant.

Holders Spain have no more room for error after suffering their second defeat in three games at the World Championship on Tuesday while hosts Turkey and dark horses France reached the last 16 with two games to spare.

The Spaniards spilled an 18-point lead in a 76-73 defeat by Lithuania, who also qualified for the knockout rounds to join the US and Argentina after they sealed their berths on Monday.

This latest defeat for the Spanish side does not jeopardize their place in the quarter finals, though they lose their first and possibly second place advantage.
