Athletic Club were held to a 0-0 draw at home by Malaga and dropped to 15th place on six points, one less than their next opponent in league, arch-rivals Real Sociedad.

Both sides struggled to create chances in the first half. Athletic were too intricate with their passes and were crowded out by the Malaga backline.

Eliseu produced the best shot of the night for Malaga with a curling strike from outside the area but Raul blocked the shot.

Susaeta had a good chance for the Basques but Malaga goalkeeper Willy Caballero parried Susaeta's attempted chip.

Before the beginning of the game, Athletic Club paid tribute to legendary goalkeeper Jose Angel Iribar on the 50th anniversary of the day he made his debut.
