The logistics group, which handles 80% of the traffic of wind farm components to Japan, concentrates its operations in the Spanish market for this product at the port of Bilbao, organizing transport, import and on-site assembly. The extension of the port of Bilbao and the investments made in facilities have consolidated project or special transport traffic, making the Bilbao one of the main Spanish ports involved in the transport of this kind of cargo.
The industrial area around the port has traditionally been both the manufacturer and recipient of "ODC" cargos, non-conventional volume cargoes, such as boilers, hoppers, presses, trains, moulds, propellers for ships.... Over recent years, a new type of industry has been added to the former; the wind farm industry, which requires the transport of nacelles and blades, conventional items that require extensive handling space in the port area, which is provided without difficulty.
The wind farm business is one of the most dynamic sectors that make use of project services offered by Nippon Express, whose customers include companies such as Gamesa, Acciona or Mitsubishi. This Bilbao branch of this Japanese group has been operating for 15 years and, today, runs a weekly service involving maritime container traffic, cargo consolidation and projects. Its main customers belong to the automotive sector.
