A Spanish civil guard was shot and wounded early Sunday morning in an attack by several terrorists opposite the police barracks in Leitza (Navarra), according to anti terrorist forces.

The crime took place around 03:30. The agent realized about some activity outside the police barracks and the shooting started just after he identified the suspects.

The official with the Interior Ministry office in the Navarra region says the Civil Guard officer is undergoing surgery for a fractured arm at Clínica Universitaria de Navarra in Pamplona/Iruña but his life is not at risk.

The official gave no further details and spoke on condition of anonymity in line with ministry rules.

Spanish media reports say an exchange of gunfire broke out after the officer encountered at least one person preparing to place a bomb outside a Civil Guard building that houses officers and their families.
