Spain's interior minister says armed Basque armed group ETA was apparently planning an attack coinciding with the swearing of a new, non-nationalist government in the Basque Country next month.

Alfredo Perez Rubalcaba said Monday that police reached this conclusion after examining documents seized in weekend raids that netted the arrest in France of Jurdan Martitegi Lisazo, ETA's suspected leader.

He said the suspect was apparently to have provided a commando unit with a truck bomb to be used some time around May 4-5 debate in the Basque parliament. Rubalcaba spoke in London in comments carried on Spanish National Radio.
